too hungover for blogging

At least, for any original content - however, I am primed for some linking. Be forewarned though, the following is pretty much useless for anyone who hasn't played Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, but then again, everything on here is pretty much useless in general, so no big surprise. But I digress. MGS2 is generally acknowledged as the most controversial Metal Gear Solid, not only for the whole "psyche, no Snake for you, instead you're a lithe, rather effeminate amateur soldier with really pretty hair" mindfuck, but also for what is inarguably the most complex, convoluted, near-indecipherable plot seen in the entire series. Fortunately though, some aspiring young gent decided to decipher the indecipherable - a good 6 years later, but still - and has come up with a rather impressive analysis of the game, both of the plot and of the thematic and stylistic parallels between it and and its predecessor, MGS1. It's really, really long, but certainly worth the time. That is, unless you haven't played the games, in which case you're a total n00b and should really stop wasting my time. Thanks!

Driving Off the Map: A Formal Analysis of Metal Gear Solid 2

And a little something for the ladies. And the fags.

fig 1. The Metal Gear Solid series isn't one to stray away from a little homoeroticism.

fig 2. Seriously.
