Just watched yesterday's episode of Friday Night Lights, and as usual, I'm still convinced that it's the best hour of network television around. There are some subplots this season - the "murder", Carlotta and Saracen, Santiago (though after this ep I'm really warming to it) - that I've been a bit wary of, but it still remains an incredibly well-written, impeccably acted show. And yes, I may have teared up significantly during the final scene at Buddy's apartment. But you probably knew all of that, and that's not what I'm here to write about. No, what caught my eye - well, more appropriately, ear - was an exchange that took place between the new student paper advisor, Mr. Barnett (kind of dreamy, but Julie, NO!), and a student, during which said student bemoaned the fact that The Knife hadn't ever played a show in Texas. Yes, THE KNIFE!!! I mean, they may have put out what I consider to be the best album of 2006, but am I really to believe that a kid from small-town Texas knows who these people are?
And not even that, but that a good portion of the class is familiar enough with the Swedish artsy synth pop duo to audibly laugh at his comment? I mean, shit, I felt like the Decemberists reference a few eps ago felt a little shoehorned in, but this takes the cake.

Felt exactly the same way. There are lots of weird references on TV these days but this was totally out of place.
