it's been long enough

The DC concert schedule for the past two months has been kind of weak - there was a great lineup in early summer, with Hot Chip, The Pipettes, and the Mika concert that I fucking missed despite the fact that I had a ticket and on the next day had to hear about how fabulous it was with giant balloons and confetti cannons and really cute boys, but since then there has been very little too excite me, excepting VFest, which I would've considered going to had it not involved spending large amounts of a. money, and b. time in the wretched, wretched heat. Anyway, was recently bemoaning this dearth of good shows and decided to check out the Black Cat schedule for the sole purpose of complaining about how there wasn't anything halfway decent coming up, but instead delightfully uncovered two events of particular note:

9/19 - Girl Talk w/ Dan Deacon

Finally! - missed him when he came to Baltimore. Admittedly though I'm kind of concerned, as his shows are less concert and more dance party, and I'm not sure how that will play with the typically static crowd of DC scenesters at the Black Cat who can't seem to loosen up and just fucking move goddamnit(!!!). Hopefully they'll see the light, but if not, guess I'll just have to dance alone while hoping that Greg Gillis gets at least somewhat naked.

10/4 - The Blow
Probably won't be AS fun a show as Girl Talk, and it worries me that it's now only one person since Jona Bechtolt (beatmaster if you will) left, but am still really excited as I had no idea "they" were touring and, after all, Paper Television WAS my fifth favorite album of 2006.

So yeah, two sure-to-be-awesome shows in two months which, if you are in or near DC, are not to be missed. Tickets for each hover around $15 (plus ticketmaster assfuckery) and both are already on sale - unlikely that The Blow will sell out, but will be surprised if Girl Talk doesn't.
