Just keeping my mind off shit by continuous posting random shit, and surprise surprise, I found this one on boingboing - a delightful timelapse video of the Falkirk Boat Wheel in Scotland, which is so futuristic and wacked out it makes my loins tingle.

If you can't tell from the video, it's essentially a really cool, impressively functional replacement for a lock, creating a connection between two canals with a height difference of 24 meters. There's a lot more on the wikipedia page - which is definitely worth checking out - including this rather surreal picture of the approach of the top level of the wheel:
