stick to the b.e.a.t.

Like most people, I couldn't give two shits about the MTV VMAs, being as they are a microcosm of exactly what's wrong with music today - I mean, c'mon, Panic! at the Disco had the best video of 2006? Give me a fucking break. Anyway, the nominations for the 2007 awards were announced yesterday, and while hardly exciting aside from several curious nods to an album released in 2006, there is something of great import in the Video of the Year category:

The nomination of Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." is significant for two reasons. First and foremost, not only is it a totally sweet video, but the song kicks major ass as well (though the extended version, "B.E.A.T", is just a tad bit better) and, though it has very little chance of winning, it's still nice to see it get recognition on such a normally vom-worthy awards show. Second and perhaps more interesting, one of the videos it's up against is Kanye West's "Stronger," and to understand why this matters one need only look back to last year's European VMAs, where Justice took home video of the year with this:

which amusingly led to this:

I mean, are you fucking serious? If I had a nickel for every time I wanted to punch his stupid pudgy face I'd have a seriously impressive amount of nickels. In the interest though of full disclosure, and as much as I hate myself for it, I kind of like "Stronger," not only because its video does some serious Akira referencing, but also because it samples a seriously bitchin' Daft Punk track. And this fact, along with the above, only serves to reaffirm one of life's great certainties - that no matter what happens, no matter how horrible MTV and music in general sucks, no matter how much I want to murder Kanye West, French electronic duos fucking kick ass, right?

Um Kayne West is the most repulsive human being in the entertainment industry. He recently was quoted telling white people that it is nerdy to say "bling". Wow. Vomit in a blender, blend it up and have me drink it.
